More about Kelly Sanderson,

Kelly aka Maritime girl at heART was born and lives in Truro but spends summers in Brule on the North shore. After graduating from the Aberdeen School of nursing she nursed for 30 years and raised 3 daughters mostly in the Ottawa area. She always looked for creative outlets, starting with acrylic painting and moved to needle felting/ painting with wool approx 3 years ago after purchasing a starter kit from Lismore sheep farm in River John. In her retirement she is spending time creating 3D paintings, predominately with an east coast flair. Needle felting is an art form that precedes knitting and initially was a method used in making blankets and clothing to protect people from the elements. Her canvas is a sheet of wool felt, the roving wool is used to create the art using a barbed needle or needles to attach the wool together on the wool felt. Her materials are carefully selected across Canada and locally sourced as much as possible. I am currently set up in a studio at my cottage in Brule and have my paintings avail at the Fraser gallery in Tatamagouche. My work can be found online using Facebook or Instagram- maritime girl at heart
