Nude on a Swing
Suspending inhibition…pushing boundaries…exhibition.
“Nude on a Swing”, a 1906 painting by Paul Klee, conveys the tension between free expression and vulnerability. Going out on a limb to reach new heights became a prevalent theme among painters Andrea Carroll, Debby Finkbeiner, and Christene Sandeson as they met virtually to explore automatism during the pandemic isolation of 2020.
The exhibition will include five to seven paintings from each artist’s venture of uncharted expression, unfamiliar techniques, colours, and materials. The pieces inspired by weekly assignments challenging their usual art practises, being either new works or re-worked prior paintings. The primarily abstract works, spontaneous responses constrained structured timed assignments, reflect lock-down and confinement, but also liberation and new frontiers.
The exhibited artworks will include a mixture of acrylic, collage, and drawing media on canvas, paper and board supports.
‘Nude on a Swing’ is an exhibition of painting that embodies letting go while hanging on.
