About the Event

Sean Benton – Solo Show

Opening Reception August 11, 7pm

“A display of my last year’s work and current work in progress for 2023. In 2022, I made a stylistic change in my work which steers back to how I learned to paint. These works are brightly coloured, high contrasted in lights and darks, and have lots of shapes and brush strokes to them. These are elements I teach in my Drawing and Painting classes at Stfx University and characteristics I have had in my work for many years in different ways. Last year I stopped using straight white and black, stopped adding hints of the raw primaries into my paintings, and stopped using smaller brushes. The goal in 2022 was to achieve a more natural look with a larger brush while still having movement and contrast. Thematically you could call me an every person’s artist. I enjoy painting many things and trying to bring life to the work through creating form. I’ve always connected more to technique than a single theme in my work. I enjoy painting portraits, still life, and on occasion landscape and architecture.”
